UFC Fight Night 30's Jimi Manuwa will finish fight once Ryan Jimmo bores

jimi-manuwa-6.jpgWhile Ryan Jimmo does own one of the fastest knockouts in UFC history, he’s also fought to a decision in nine of his past 12 outings. Opponent Jimi Manuwa isn’t impressed and just hopes he doesn’t get bored.

“I’m an exciting fighter, and I’ll put on an exciting fight, as usual,” Manuwa told MMAjunkie.com Radio. “If I start getting bored with his hugging, then I might just decide to switch his lights off.”

Manuwa (13-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) and Jimmo (18-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) meet on the FOX Sports 2-televised main card of Saturday’s “UFC Fight Night 30: Machida vs. Munoz” event at Phones 4u Arena in Manchester, England.

Manuwa, the man known as “Poster Boy,” is a vaunted striker who has earned 12 of his 13 career wins by way of knockout. Jimmo impressed in his UFC debut, needing just seven seconds to score a knockout win over Anthony Perosh. However, he faltered in his next fight, losing a decision to James Te Huna. He rebounded with a win over Igor Pokrajac, but the bout failed to entertain.

Logic would seem to dictate that Jimmo would look to avoid the striking game, instead working into a clinch and hoping to nullify his opponent’s best skills. However, Manuwa doesn’t think the approach should be that simple.

“He could try to take me down,” Manuwa said. “He can try and punch me. I’ve got everything. We can play jiu-jitsu. We can play wrestling. We can play boxing. We can play kickboxing. We can do whatever he wants. I’ll be imposing my will on the day, as usual. I might decide to take him down if I feel like it.

“I love MMA, so I mix up my wrestling with my striking. I mix up my wrestling with my jiu-jitsu. That’s the great thing about MMA. I do a lot of MMA, even judo, and it’s great to be able to mix everything together.”

Manuwa is a slight favorite, according to oddsmakers. A London resident, he’ll certainly have the crowd firmly on his side. But to hear Manuwa tell it, there’s really no reason for concern. All signs point to him picking up another emphatic win.

“I had a great camp,” Manuwa said. “I’m feeling good, I’m feeling confident, and I’ve got his number.

“Knockout, round one or two.”
