MANCHESTER – So who was the big winner in UFC Fight Night 30's heavily anticipated headliner between Melvin Guillard and Ross Pearson? Absolutely nobody, as it turned out.
The lightweight fight, which aired on FOX Sports 2 from Phones4u Arena in Manchester, England, ended in a disappointing no-contest after Guillard (31-12-2 MMA, 12-8 UFC) tagged Pearson (15-6 MMA, 7-3 UFC) with a pair of knees that were deemed both illegal and unintentional. With Pearson suffering a deep forehead gash and the doctor unwilling to let it continue, the bout was halted and ruled a no-contest.
While it wasn’t clear if Pearson was or wasn’t actually down, no one was happy with the result, including the Manchester crowd, which booed and hurled expletives at the bout’s unfortunate halt.
