A controversial middleweight contest left Tim Kennedy with an orbital injury, according to UFC 178 medical suspensions released today by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
After rocking Yoel Romero in the second round, Kennedy succumbed to a flurry of punches in the third round of of the pay-per-view bout at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. He is now restricted from contact for one month and must receive clearance for his injury in order to avoid a six-month suspension.
Romero also received more than a monthlong suspension and is barred from contact for one month. A total of 12 fighters were benched following the event.
In other notable suspensions, Cat Zingano, who returned from a year-plus layoff to stop Amanda Nunes for a title shot, will need clearance for her upper back or will face a six-month term.
