UFC 146 Results: Struve Puts Johnson Away Quick

Late replacements and last minute changes don’t seem to bother Stefan Struve who made short work of Lavar Johnson ending the fight early in the first round.

Since coming to the UFC from Strikeforce, Lavar Johnson has looked ultra impressive with two knockouts over Joey Beltran and Pat Barry. So it was with good reason that he decided to keep the momentum going when Mark Hunt was injured and the UFC came calling to ask him to step in and face Struve on Saturday night.

Unfortunately, Struve had other ideas.

As soon as Johnson put the pressure on him and pressed him against the cage the same way he did his last two opponents, the 6’11? Dutchman pulled guard and brought his opponent into his world.

It didn’t take long for Struve to lock up an armbar and as soon as he had it straightened out, Johnson was done.

From the sound of his voice on the ground, it appeared that Johnson may have suffered a broken arm from the quick and nasty submission courtesy of Stefan Struve.

“You want to see what your opponent does, and I felt his control and I was like yeah I think I can get the armbar if I jump guard right now,” said Struve after the win.

“He’s a heavy hitter so why give him any chance at all to win a fight against me.”

Struve didn’t give him much of a chance at all and now stands as a winner of three fights in a highly competitive UFC heavyweight division.
