Lyoto Machida continued to impress in his new weight class on Saturday night as he defeated middleweight Gegard Mousasi in Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 36 headliner.
Machida (21-4 MMA, 13-4 UFC) outpointed Mousasi (34-4-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) over five rounds for a unanimous-decision victory at Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil.
With the win, the former light heavyweight champion took another step toward becoming one of the few fighters in history to win UFC belts in multiple weight classes; the victory likely earned “The Dragon” an 185-pound title shot.

I’m happy this is a 5 round fight since most of the first was feeling each other out. Not sure what Mousasi’s gameplan is. Machida wins KO

Exactly what I thought, Mousasi is very technical striker but he does fade.

That sweep was tight!

In my experience…. Judges only score the takedown, not the sweep. #ufc — Chris Camozzi (@ChrisCamozzi) February 16, 2014
