Fedor Emelianenko vs. Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, while still expected to happen, isn’t going to take place on Strikeforce’s Jan. 29 fight card in San Jose, Calif. The promotion is filling up the roster for its return to the HP Pavilion.
MMAWeekly.com sources said that a bout pitting Roger Gracie against Trevor Prangley, and another with Herschel Walker and Scott Carson facing off are in the promotion’s plans for the Jan. 29 event on Showtime. The Gracie vs. Prangley bout was first reported by MMARising.com, while MMAJunkie.com reported the rescheduled Walker vs. Carson bout.
A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Abu Dhabi submission champion, Gracie (3-0) will be making his second start for Strikeforce. His submission of UFC veteran Kevin Randleman on May 15 of this year came two years after his prior in ring action. The Gracie Barra black belt has also submitted Yuki Kondo and Ron Waterman in his professional mixed martial arts career.
Prangley (23-6-1) enters the fight coming off of a split decision victory over former “Ultimate Fighter” cast member and UFC contender Keith Jardine. He is 1-1-1 in his three most recent fights and really needs a win to remain a player for Strikeforce.
Walker (1-0) and Carson (4-1) were originally slated to fight at Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu 2 in December. Walker, however, was forced off the card due to a cut suffered in training that required seven stitches to close. Carson wound up not fighting on the card either, instead opting to wait for Walker’s return.
The Strikeforce Jan. 29 fight card is also expected to feature middleweight champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza defending his belt against Robbie Lawler, as well as welterweight champion Nick Diaz against an as yet undisclosed opponent.
