Pat Curran-Daniel Straus Featherweight Title Tilt Joins Nov. 2 Bellator PPV Bill

Pat Curran will defend his Bellator featherweight title at the company’s inaugural pay-per-view event, as the 145-pound pacesetter takes on Season 6 tournament winner Daniel Straus.

The Nov. 2 show takes place at Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, Calif., and is headlined by a light heavyweight showdown between former UFC champions Quinton Jackson and Tito Ortiz.

Additionally, the pay-per-view bill will see Michael Chandler put his lightweight title up for grabs in a rematch with ex-champ Eddie Alvarez, while Muhammed Lawal and Emanuel Newton do battle over the interim light heavyweight strap.

Curran was initially supposed to defend his title against Straus this past April, but a broken hand forced Straus to withdraw from the booking. Prior to their Bellator days, the featherweights locked horns in 2009 under the Xtreme Fighting Organization banner, with Curran earning a second-round knockout over the Ohio native.

Straus dropped just one fight in his next 18 outings, falling to Patricio Freire in the Season 4 tournament finals back in 2011. The 29-year-old rebounded in the Season 6 draw, however, posting victories over Jeremy Spoon, Mike Corey and Marlon Sandro to earn his crack at Curran’s title.

Curran has not lost since making the cut to featherweight, winning the 2011 Summer Series tournament before knocking out Joe Warren to capture the 145-pound championship. The Illinois native then followed his victory with two successful title defenses, narrowly outpointing Freire before submitting Shahbulat Shamhalaev with a guillotine choke this past April.
