Nate Diaz isn't buying Josh Thomson's excuse of a stolen phone

Josh Thomson seemed to issue a challenge to Nick Diaz – while taking a shot at his brother, Nate Diaz – before saying he didn’t send the tweet and that his phone was stolen.

The younger Diaz isn’t buying it.

Early Sunday morning, a message on Thomson’s Twitter account seemed to challenge the semi-retired Nick Diaz: “I knocked out your brother, I’ll knock ur bitch ass out in San Jose July 26th”

But later that morning, Thomson (20-6 MMA, 3-2 UFC), who scored a head-kick knockout of Nate Diaz (17-9 MMA, 12-7 UFC) in April 2013, issued a series of tweets and said his phone had been stolen. He apologized to anyone offended by the tweets.

UFC on FOX 12 takes place July 26 at the SAP Center at San Jose (formerly HP Pavilion) in California. No fights are currently scheduled for the network-televised card.

A fight between the 155-pound Thomson and 170-pounder Nick Diaz would have been intriguing, though the younger Diaz is the one in the same weight class as Thomson. The first fight ended definitively, but could this latest drama make a rematch sellable?

Nate Diaz recently halted a two-fight skid with a TKO win over Gray Maynard. Thomson, meanwhile, recently suffered a split-decision defeat to Benson Henderson and suggested an imminent retirement, though he later said he planned to fight on.
