After running his winning streak to 20 with a UFC Fight Night 77 knockout of Anthony Birchak, undefeated Thomas Almeida has jumped up two spots in the latest NOS Energy Drink MMA Rankings.
The Brazilian bantamweight made the leap from No. 15 to No. 13 following his third straight UFC knockout victory. Almeida looks like he’s a near-lock for a future spot in the top-10.
Check out all of the rankings above while we prepare for this weekend, which will see plenty of action among ranked fighters. At UFC 193, Ronda Rousey will look to defend her women’s bantamweight title and No. 1 spot in the division when she faces off with No. 9 ranked Holly Holm in the main event; No. 1 ranked women’s strawweight Joanna Jedrzejczyk defends her UFC belt against No. 7 ranked Valerie Letourneau in the co-main event; and in a heavyweight clash, No. 10 ranked Mark Hunt takes on No. 14 Antonio Silva. Also in action on the card are No. 11 ranked middleweight Uriah Hall and No. 11 ranked heavyweight Stefan Struve.
The rankings take into account a fighter's wins/losses, quality of competition, finishing rate/dominance and frequency of fights.
Fighters are no longer eligible to be ranked after they've been inactive for 24 months, either due to injuries, drug/conduct suspensions, contract disputes or self-imposed hiatuses.
Fighters serving drug/conduct suspensions are eligible to be ranked, so long as they're not inactive for more than 24 months.
To the best of our ability, fighters will be ranked in their primary weight class. Catchweight fights and bouts outside the fighter's primary weight class can have a positive or negative impact on the ranking. However, fighters can be ranked in only one weight class at a given time, and in most cases, they won't be ranked in a new weight class until they've had their first fight at that weight.
