Kevin Lee didn’t get the fight he wanted, and Cody Pfister is unfortunately taking the brunt of his discontent.
Soon after 19-year-old Sage Northcutt splashed on the UFC scene earlier this month with a dazzling 57-second promotional debut, Lee joined MMAjunkie Radio and blasted the lightweight and the hype surrounding him (check out the highlights above).
“I think a lot of other fighters feel that,” Lee told MMAjunkie Radio. “They won’t say sh-t, but I will. We can settle it right now. I hope he’s listening in so he can hear me – he can hear what I’m saying about him. I’m going to call (UFC matchmaker) Joe (Silva) as soon as I get off the phone with you guys. We can do it at 194.”
Unfortunately for Lee, the UFC had other plans: Today, officials announced Northcutt (6-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) will co-headline UFC Fight Night 80 against Pfister (12-4-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) on Dec. 10. So Lee poked fun at Pfister’s recent loss to James Moontasri, whom Lee defeated in his most recent bout (via Twitter):
Lee (11-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC), who would’ve been a significant step up in competition for young Northcutt, was ultimately booked to fight Leonardo Santos (14-3-1 MMA, 3-0-1 UFC) at UFC 194 on Dec. 12, two days after Northcutt’s fight. Both events takes place in Las Vegas.
