American Emilio Uruttia faced Brazilian Daniel Hortegas in the main event of FMD: The 37th Chamber last Saturday night and there was nothing to separate the two men. They put on three fast and frenetic rounds which had the crowd at the Insanity Nightclub in Bangkok on its feet.
Hortegas set out his stall to make this a grappling contest right from the offset. After a handful of strikes from Uruttia the BJJ black belt completed a single leg takedown and looked to set up some submissions.

At times Hortegas seemed close to finishing the fight as his opponent repeatedly gave up his back but Uruttia was always able to escape and after some breathtaking scrambles he frequently found himself in top position.
With neither man able to dominate proceedings the fight could have gone either way but in the end to of the judges voted in favour of Uruttia who improves to 8-4. Hortegas droops to 3-3 after a second successive decision loss.
In the co-main event Richard Corminal finished Thai Rithy with some brutal elbows. The Cambodian had been holding his own until getting taken down early in the second round and put away with a series of hard shots to the head.
The onslaught left Rithy unconscious and he drops to 5-2 after suffering his second loss on an FMD card. The Cambodian had been holding his own but once Corminal, who improves to 4-1, found himself in top position he attacked relentlessly.
There was also a win for Iranian heavyweight prospect Masoud Ranjbar but he had to survive an early onslaught from Jamie Sloane. The Englishman sensed his striking game was superior and went all out looking for an early finish.
After two grueling rounds both men looked exhausted but it was Ranjbar who landed the decisive blow with an elbow in the third finishing the fight. He improves to 3-0 while Sloane, who complained that the decisive shot was to the back of his head, drops to 6-3.
