Donald Cerrone Inks New 8-Fight UFC Deal

If you haven’t already gotten used to watch Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in the Octagon, you might want to get ready because you’re going to be seeing a lot more of him. Cerrone has inked a new contract with the UFC.

Having spent the majority of his career in the WEC or the UFC, Cerrone has been a fixture in the Octagon for nearly a decade. He won’t be going anywhere soon after signing a new eight-fight deal to remain with the UFC. Cerrone confirmed the news to MMAWeekly.com following an initial MMAJunkie.com report.

“I’m a UFC guy, man; not going anywhere. They’re gonna work out everything with (my contract),” Cerrone said after his recent victory at UFC 202. “I’m looking to get 50 fights in this (expletive). 32 is tonight, I think.”

Donald-Cerrone-UFC-178-Post-Press-03-750x370Cerrone’s second-round stoppage of Rick Story was his third consecutive victory since moving up to welterweight, and, as he said, his thirty-second fight for the promotion when combining his UFC and WEC bouts. He’s showing no signs of slowing down, and appears bent on riding out his career with the UFC.

“I just talked with (new UFC owner) Ari (Emanuel) and they seem very happy with me, so I see big things with this company,” Cerrone continued at his UFC 202 post-fight press conference. “I feel like I’m a veteran of this sport, man. I love it. I love fighting for the UFC; this is my drug. I need it as much as I can. I feel like a crackhead up here already looking for another fight.”

Immediately after his victory over story, Cerrone called for a shot at UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in New York. He holds a victory over Alvarez, so there is some justification to calling him out, but Cerrone later explained that he is primarily looking for the quickest route to getting on the New York card.
