Daniel Cormier: Watch Muhammed Lawal 'put an end' to Quinton Jackson's career

Muhammed Lawal is getting a big boost of support from a longtime friend ahead of Saturday’s Bellator 120 event.

UFC light heavyweight contender Daniel Cormier, who credits “King Mo” with launching and supporting his own fighting career, offered Lawal some words of encouragement ahead of Saturday’s Bellator 120 event.

In Saturday’s pay-per-view headliner, Lawal (12-3 MMA, 4-2 BMMA) meets former UFC champion Quinton Jackson (34-11 MMA, 2-0 BMMA). The bout, which takes place at Landers Center in Southaven, Miss., marks the organization’s PPV debut.

For Lawal, who was promoted to the main event following the recent cancellation of Eddie Alvarez vs. Michael Chandler III, it’s one of the biggest opportunities a fighter can find outside the UFC.

It’s also be a chance, Cormier said, for Lawal to end the career of Jackson. The fighters meet in the final of the Season 10 light heavyweight tournament.

As Cormier wrote on Instagram:

This guy insisted that I fight. This guys called me when I was at my lowest point everyday. This guy paid my mortgage when I was broke. Hes my brother and I can’t wait until he competes this weekend in his 1st ppv main event. You don’t meet many people like Muhammad Lawal in one lifetime and I am lucky to have this guy. Watch him put an end to rampage career. Mo you a champion my brother and good luck. You won’t need it. #brother #teamthirsty #okstate #worldteam my brother. Kick his ass MO! @kingmofh

Lawal and Cormier were both standout wrestlers at Oklahoma State University. The longtime friends both previously fought for Strikeforce and were part of a September 2011 card in Cincinnati, where Lawal knocked out Roger Gracie and Cormier knocked out Antonio Silva.

Their paths went separate ways after Strikeforce, though. Lawal eventually signed with Bellator, and Cormier moved on to the UFC, where he emerged as a top heavyweight contender before a move down to 205 pounds. Cormier (14-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) fights Dan Henderson (30-11 MMA, 7-5 UFC) next Saturday, May 24, in UFC 173's pay-per-view co-headliner.
