Dana White's 'Conor McGregor Injured' Report in Doubt | MMAWeekly.com

Rumors swirling around the UFC 205 main event continue to gather steam, especially following the information flying around over the past 24 hours.

While most indications pointed to Conor McGregor vs. Eddie Alvarez for the UFC lightweight championship as the Nov. 12 headliner at Madison Square Garden in New York, a dubious Dana White tweet on Tuesday night cast some serious doubt. That doubt doubled with a UFC Tonight report that a McGregor leg injury might preclude him from fighting in November.

White’s tweet, in response to a fan who asked him to confirm McGregor vs. Alvarez for UFC 205, negated the bout, saying that they were instead trying to make a fight between Alvarez and No. 1 lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov.

UFC Tonight on Wednesday ran a report, crediting White as saying that Alvarez was issued a bout agreement and a deadline to fight Nurmagomedov at UFC 205. That deadline allegedly passed and he was issued a new bout agreement, for the same fight, at UFC 206 on Dec. 10 in Toronto.

Conor McGregor and Dana WhiteFollowing the report on Alvarez vs. Nurmagomedov, Megan Olivi also stated that White said McGregor was “nursing a leg injury,” which would likely keep him off of the New York card.

Seems like enough water to put out the fire, right?

It might have, but the embers are still smoldering, and gaining newfound fuel as ESPN reporter Brett Okamoto, a short time after the UFC Tonight report, tweeted, “According to sources close to McGregor, Conor is ‘fine’ and the leg would not prevent him from fighting at UFC 205.”

So where does the truth lie? We’re about to find out.

Although much of the information in the reports could be simple misdirection, officials have scheduled a UFC 205 press conference for Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the Theater at Madison Square Garden, where White is expected to unveil the full fight card.

With the UFC long stating that the promotion’s New York debut would be a blockbuster event to rival UFC 100, don’t be surprised if Conor McGregor miraculously finds his way onto the fight card.
