Dana White: UFC Returns to Boston for Aug. 17 Debut on Fox Sports 1

The Ultimate Fighting Championship will return to Boston for the first time in three years when the UFC debuts Aug. 17 on Fox Sports 1.

UFC President Dana White announced the news via Twitter on Friday, revealing that the TD Garden will once again play host to the Las Vegas-based promotion. No bouts have been announced for the as-yet-untitled Fox Sports 1 (FS1) premiere, though White stated that the promotion will offer up “a sick card” in Beantown.

The UFC previously visited the venue in August 2010, a trip that saw Frankie Edgar successfully defend his lightweight championship against former divisional ruler B.J. Penn in the main event of UFC 118. That show also featured a one-sided heavyweight showdown pitting UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture against former multi-division boxing champion James Toney. “The Natural” wiped the floor with Toney, picking the pugilist’s ankle early in round one and finishing “Lights Out” with an arm-triangle choke.

Fox officials announced plans to launch sister channels FS 1 and 2 earlier this year. Currently known as Speed Channel and Fuel TV, the channels will become 24-hour sports networks starting Aug. 17. The UFC is expected to be featured heavily on FS1, which will be available in more than 90 million homes, according to a recent press release.
