Lurking behind the tailor-made suits, the beard, the tattoos, and the hype of Conor McGregor are lofty dreams. The 26-year-old Irish 145-pound contender plans to make runs at the UFC featherweight and lightweight titles.
“He’s going to go up a division and that’s a certainty. He will go up to lightweight,” McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh told Submission Radio during a recent appearance.
The No. 5 ranked McGregor (16-2) takes on No. 10 ranked feather fighter Dennis Siver (22-9, 1 NC) at UFC Fight Night 59 on Jan. 18 in Boston. If he wins, “The Notorious” will fight featherweight champion Jose Aldo in his next outing.
UFC president Dana White recently stated, “This fight in Boston, if he (McGregor) wins this fight, he’s going to fight for the title.”
McGregor and his camp predict that he’ll dispatch of Siver within two minutes, and defeat Aldo to earn the belt. Once that potential reality happens, McGregor is determined to become a two-division UFC titleholder.

“Right now, the featherweight belt is the goal and then the lightweight belt, and then we’ll see how he’s doing,” Kavanagh said.
