Brock Lesnar Allegedly Tested Positive for Same Estrogen Blocker as Jon Jones

The UFC and Brock Lesnar on Tuesday were notified that, in addition to his positive June 28 out-of-competition drug test, Lesnar turned up a positive result for the same prohibited substance in his UFC 200 in-compeition drug test on fight night.

“The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Brock Lesnar that his in-competition sample collection from July 9, 2016, at UFC 200, has tested positive for the same substance as his previously announced out-of-competition collection on June 28, 2016,” read a statement from the UFC.

Brock Lesnar and Jon Jones - UFC 200Although Lesnar’s camp, the UFC, and USADA have all remained quiet about the substance for which Lesnar tested positive, the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday reported that he allegedly tested positive for one of the same substances as Jon Jones. The former UFC light heavyweight champion tested positive for Hydroxy Clomiphene and Letrozole, which are considered estrogen blockers.

The substance Lesnar allegedly tested positive to was clomiphene, which keeps the body from converting testosterone to estrogen, essentially increasing the amount of available testosterone in the body.

The Los Angeles Times report cited an unnamed “official with knowledge of Lesnar’s samples.”

According to the UFC, “USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case. It is important to note that, under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full fair legal review process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed. The Nevada State Athletic Commission also retains jurisdiction over this matter as the sample collection was performed at UFC 200 in Las Vegas.”

If the test results stand, Lesnar could face an extensive suspension that would make a future return to the UFC unlikely. He also remains a WWE Superstar, however, and is scheduled to compete at the professional wrestling organization’s upcoming Summer Slam pay-per-view event in August. The WWE, thus far, has not commented on whether or not Lesnar will be allowed to participate.
