Bellator inks Cheick Kongo, Ilima Macfarlane to multi-fight contract extensions

Bellator has signed two of its notable fighters to contract extensions.

Heavyweight Cheick Kongo and flyweight Ilima Macfarlane have both inked multi-fight contract extensions with the organization. MMAjunkie today confirmed the news with Bellator officials.

The exact terms of each deal were not disclosed, other than the fact both fighters will remain with Bellator for “several” more fights.

Kongo (25-10-2 MMA, 7-2 BMMA) is coming off his sixth Bellator main event appearance since he debuted with the company in October 2013. He defeated Tony Johnson by majority decision at Bellator 161 earlier this month, pushing his winning streak to three and giving him five wins in his past six fights overall.

At 41, the veteran Frenchman is still going strong and has his sights set on the vacant Bellator heavyweight belt.

Macfarlane (4-0 MMA, 3-0 BMMA), meanwhile, is just looking to continue to get her career off the ground. She’s off to a strong start, winning her first four pro bouts, three by stoppage. She most recently appeared at Bellator 157 in June, where she earned a second-round submission of Rebecca Ruth.

Already one of the more notable fighters on the Bellator 125-pound roster, Macfarlane made headlines not long ago when she called out Anastasia Yankova, expressing her desire to resolve their “hidden sexual tension.”
