The whole cross-over talk of MMA/UFC welterweight champion Anderson Silva versus the legendary Boxer Roy Jones Jr. has garnered a lot of talk as of late, leading to speculation that the mega-bout could finally materialize. Apparently both fighters are down to have at it, but in which arena would the bout take place?
Silva has come forward and stated he would like two fights with Jones; one in MMA, and one in the Boxing ring. Now, I have little doubt that in a MMA fight, Silva would take Jones to the mat and snap him into a sub, via Randy Couture on James Toney, but who in their right mind think Silva could touch Jones in Boxing?
Silva is indeed very good on his feet, and a hard hitter. He actually did box professionally, once in 1998 and again in 2005, going 1-1. Jones inversely has forged a record of 56-8, with 40 KO’s, while winning his last two outings against decent opposition.
If Dana White and company are smart, they will push for Silva vs. Jones at a UFC event, because in the boxing ring, Jones would cruise past “the Spider”, giving a huge black eye to the MMA world as their great champ got squashed.
I understand that this fight actually happening has a slim chance, but then again money talks and both Jones and Silva can bring the viewers and the cash.
