Anderson Silva claims not knowing about UFC 162 media appointments

Silva was fined 50,000$ when he didn’t appear for a pre UFC 162 media event on Tuesday. The UFC middleweight champ had instead flown back home to Brazil.

Silva says he knew nothing about the media event until he was on his way to the airport. To the Brazilian news magazine Veja, he says he has never missed any commitment to the UFC and that if he had known about the media event in Los Angeles he would have never been on that plane.

But Silva also says his main priority is training;

"Everyone knows that I always block my media schedule to devote myself to training, since that's my main priority. I'm an athlete, and my focus will always be to train and be prepared for the challenges."

UFC president Dana White says Silva miss out on a great part of his contract choosing not to speak with media;

"He doesn't like talking to the media, but it's part of his contractual obligation. Everybody wants more money, more money, more money, but nobody wants to sell the fight or go out and talk to the media. Talking to the media is part of your job, whether you like it or not."
