Why Donald Cerrone thought his UFC 182 fight sucked – and why he threw 'f-ck you kicks'

LAS VEGAS – Ask Donald Cerrone an honest question, and you’ll get an honest answer – no matter how harsh his self-assessment might be.

And when it comes to his performance in Saturday’s UFC 182 pay-per-view co-headliner, he didn’t pull any punches.

“I’m a guy that doesn’t like hearing boos,” Cerrone (26-6 MMA, 13-3 UFC) said after his unanimous-decision win over fellow lightweight contender Myles Jury (15-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC). “My legacy is I want to be fighting my ass off all the time, so I don’t consider that a win.”

Why not? The lack of crowd-pleasing theatrics, he said. Despite getting the win via 30-27 scores (watch the Cerrone vs. Jury video highlights, he felt the fight failed to live up to the expectations.

“I’m upset with my performance, and I’m going to go watch the tape and figure out what I need to do to capitalize if that happens again,” he said. “I’m very upset for the performance I put in tonight, and I apologize to everyone that was watching and the hype that was behind all that.”

The frustration boiled over in the waning seconds of the fight, when he unloaded some brutal leg kicks on his downed opponent in a clear act of aggravation.

“Oh, the f-ck you kicks? That’s what happened,” said Cerrone, who’s now won six straight fights and is already campaigning for a spot on the Feb. 14 UFC Fight Night 60 card in Colorado. “I was trying to kick to either break my leg or his. I was very upset.”
