Did the WWE jab CM Punk a little bit at its Backlash PPV on Sunday?
Possibly, but the WWE also has plausible deniability.
As everyone on the planet knows by now, CM Punk lost his UFC debut at UFC 203. So did the WWE, his former employer, wish him thanks? No. They technically didn’t do anything. Unless you are a conspiracy theorist and believe that The Miz and Dolph Ziggler parodied him, albeit in a subtle way.
Ziggler, a former college wrestler, took down The Miz, an actor who won a contract with the WWE after appearing on the reality show “Tough Enough,” before pounding him and then putting him into a rear naked choke. Sound familiar?
Let’s hope it was coincidental. Ain’t no pride in kicking a man while he’s down. Especially when that guy was cheered wildly in his entrance and during his post-fight promo.
Here’s what the exchange looked like. Go ahead and give your take on if it was a shot at Punk.
Rush in, double leg takedown, rear naked choke. Was this a subtle nod to the Punk fight last night? #WWEBacklash pic.twitter.com/jGy9i65hto
