After 12 fights in the UFC, Tim Boetsch has never headlined a card in the promotion – until now.
Boetsch (18-8 MMA, 7-5 UFC) this week fights Dan Henderson (30-13 MMA, 7-7 UFC) in the main event of UFC Fight Night 68.
“Hendo” might be the highest-profile Boetsch has had yet in his career – and that includes the likes of Hector Lomboard, Luke Rockhold, Phil Davis and Yushin Okami.
In fact, his fight with Okami, at UFC 144 in Japan in February 2012, might be his signature win. Boetsch spent two rounds getting pretty much owned by Okami. By the end of the second round, he was fighting off submission attempts and defending himself while being mounted and eating punches.
But in the third round, he got a Hail Mary when he knocked Okami out 54 seconds into the frame, stunning Okami’s home fans in Japan – and stunning UFC analyst Joe Rogan. The win put Boetsch on the middleweight map.
With four losses in his past six fights going into Saturday, Boetsch is in need of another signature win. He’s a slight favorite against former PRIDE and Strikeforce champ Henderson at UFC Fight Night 68, which takes place Saturday at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. The main card airs on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
