Glover Teixeira found himself in trouble against Ryan Bader at UFC Fight Night 28, but managed to turn things around quickly to score the TKO.
Teixeira (24-4 MMA, 7-2 UFC) punched his ticket to a light heavyweight title shot against then-champion Jon Jones with his win over Bader (20-5 MMA, 13-5 UFC) that night in September, 2013, but it wasn’t an easy victory. Bader dropped Teixeira with a left hook early in the bout, but the Brazilian got back to his feet and scored with a two-punch combination while still on wobbly legs to score the TKO win at the 2:55 mark of Round 1.
Teixeira returns to action Saturday at UFC on FOX 19, which takes place at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla. The event airs on FOX following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.
Teixeira, currently ranked No. 5 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA light heavyweight rankings and riding a two-fight winning streak, will face No. 9 ranked Rashad Evans (19-4-1 MMA, 14-4-1 UFC) in the main event of the evening.
