Video: UFN 39's Ramsey Nijem confident after working with Shields, Diaz bros.

Ramsey Nijem is well aware that Beneil Dariush, his opponent today at UFC Fight Night 39, has some impressive grappling chops. But after a recent camp switch and some new training partners, he said he’s not too concerned.

That’s what happens when you train with the likes of Nick Diaz, Nate Diaz, Jake Shields and other high-level submission fighters, who are available after Nijem relocated from The Pit in Utah to the San Francisco Bay area (he discusses the move in the supplemental video below).

Nijem (8-4 MMA, 4-3 UFC) and Dariush (7-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) meet in a lightweight bout that kicks off the UFC Fight Night 39 main card, which streams on UFC Fight Pass from du Arena in Abu Dhabi. Nijem, whose father is Palestinian and who still has family in the Middle East, believes his prep work – coupled with the event’s unique atmosphere – has him poised for an upset.

“Dariush is tough and all, but he’s fighting the Palestinian kid in the Middle East,” he recently told MMAjunkie Radio. “It’s a bad, bad matchup for him.”
