Video: UFC champ Jon Jones sings a selfie-song about getting his driver’s license back

Wednesday was a banner day for Jon Jones and gave him reason to bust out an impromptu selfie-song on video.

Jones, the UFC’s light heavyweight champion, has been sans driver’s license since a May 2012 car crash that ultimately saw him fined $1,000, in addition to having his driving privileges suspended for six months, for a driving while intoxicated sentencing.

On Wednesday, Jones posted a video to his Instagram feed after becoming a legal driver again. “I just got my license back. Got my license back. Got my license back – rom the DMV. I got my license back,” Jones sang. Before heading toward an open car door, he said, “Yeah – your boy got his driver’s license. Holla at ya …”

Although the sentencing in Jones’ home state of New York took place in July 2012, making him eligible to get his license back in early 2013, the fighter may have had other things going on to delay that trip to the DMV.

Following a coaching stint opposite Chael Sonnen on Season 17 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” Jones beat Sonnen with a first-round TKO at UFC 159 in April. He then moved on to a title defense against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165 in September. In that fight, he got his toughest test yet and was battered over five rounds by the challenger – yet retained his title in a close unanimous decision.

Jones has been recovering from injuries since then, but will put his belt on the line at UFC 171 in March against Glover Teixeira. If successful, and if Gustafsson beats Jimi Manuwa at a fight the week prior in London, the two will rematch sometime in 2014 to run back one of this year’s best fights.

But until then, Jones can drive himself around again, whether he’s singing or not.
