Video: Retired UFC vet Nick Diaz: 'I'm ready to fight'

DALLAS – After stepping away from MMA this past year while battling a severe case of burnout, Nick Diaz is growing more and more certain he wants to fight again.

In fact, he’s ready to fight now.

“I’m ready to go; I’m ready to fight,” Diaz (26-9 MMA, 7-6 UFC) said backstage today at UFC 171, which took place at American Airlines Center in Dallas.

Why now as opposed to before? The former Strikeforce champ said a state of flux in his personal affairs kept him from focusing on a return to the cage.

But with those now relatively settled, the 30-year-old fighter said it’s time to fight.

“It’s a good time, seasonally,” Diaz said. “I’m kind of seasonal. So right now, this summer, this whole year, a fresh start. I’m ready to fight. I think I can win.”
