Video: Extended footage of Tim Kennedy, Yoel Romero's UFC 178 backstage encounter

Remember that backstage encounter between Tim Kennedy and Yoel Romero at this past Saturday’s UFC 178 event? The UFC has released an extended version of it.

The confrontation, which came after the Sept. 27 event’s controversial bout, initially was available with a short Vine video. However, a slightly extended version can be found above.

During a pay-per-view main-card bout at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena, Romero (9-1 MMA, 5-0 UFC) got nearly 90 seconds (instead of the usual 60) between rounds to recover from a second-round barrage of punches from Kennedy (18-5 MMA, 3-1 UFC). When the one-minute rest time ended, Romero’s cornermen failed to remove his stool — prompting heated instructions from a commission official — and then finally walked out of the octagon. However, referee John McCarthy then noticed excessive Vaseline on Romero’s face that was applied to a cut over his left eyebrow and hailed a cornerman back into the cage to wipe it off.

Once the round started, Romero quickly rallied to stop Kennedy with punches (watch the Romero vs. Kennedy video highlights).

A rep for Kennedy told MMAjunkie the fighter plans to protest the loss. UFC President Dana White later said the organization shares some blame in the incident since it oversees the cutmen.

After a the fight, as seen above, Kennedy was fuming about the whole situation.
