Video: Bobby Green happy to win clean after random moms yelled at him

SACRAMENTO – UFC lightweight Bobby Green had no intention of accepting another fight after facing James Krause at “UFC Fight Night 31: UFC Fight for the Troops 3? this past month.

“I wanted to take a vacation and sit down and let everyone else fight and be a spectator for once, but I just didn’t like it,” Green told MMAjunkie.

What Green didn’t like was people haranguing him with questions and criticisms after his first-round TKO of Krause, which came after he landed a body kick that followed a pair of illegal groin kicks. To many, it looked borderline illegal.

So rather than go to Disneyland or wear an impression into his couch, Green (22-5 MMA, 3-0 UFC) accepted a fight with Pat Healy (31-17 MMA, 0-3 UFC) at tonight’s UFC on FOX 9 event.

“I had mothers calling me, ‘You’re a scumbag. You’re a dirty fighter.’ I’m like, ‘What?’ I’m not that type of guy,” said Green, who outpointed Healy on the FOX Sports 1-televised preliminary card at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento.

“So I got tired of talking to people, and every time (it was), ‘What about the kick?’ I felt it was legal. So it’s just like, let’s get this out of the way. Let’s get past this fight.”

Green did just that, outstriking Healy and refusing to be dragged into the type of close-quarters fight he is known for.

It wasn’t easy, and Green appeared to tire midway through the bout due to Healy’s relentless pressure. But he expected that.

“When I did an interview, I explained that it’s like fighting ‘The Terminator,’” said Green, who took home a unanimous-decision win with 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 scores. “Everything you give him, he keeps coming, and he’ll break you. And I just wasn’t going to let him break me.”

Now, he’s ready to cross off that to-do on his list.

“Vacation,” he said when asked of his immediate plans. “I miss my family. I want to go back and do some things with them. I miss my wife. I want to sit down and relax and be able watch some other fights and be a part of the UFC culture.”
