Video: Anthony Johnson masterminded fake-brawl prank on Dana White

LOS ANGELES – Anthony Johnson said it was his idea to punk UFC President Dana White on Saturday with a fake brawl at a news conference to promote its upcoming events.

But, Johnson added, it was light heavyweight champ Jon Jones’ idea to reenact his infamous clash with Daniel Cormier.

“I was like, ‘We need to do something to get everybody going,’ and he said, ‘I’m going to headbutt you.’ I was like, ‘Cool, let’s do it,’” Johnson told MMAjunkie.

As planned, Jones thrust his head at Johnson when they faced off for a photo opp. Johnson shoved the champ in the throat, a la Cormier, and White jumped in to pull the two apart.

Then, Jones (21-1 MMA, 15-1 UFC) and Johnson (19-4 MMA, 10-4 UFC) let him in on the joke, and White’s blood pressure began to stabilize.

As Johnson pointed out, it wasn’t an exact replica of the Jones-Cormier brawl (watch it below) since UFC PR head Dave Sholler wasn’t the man in between them.

But it might have been even better, because, as he put it, “Dana’s ‘Mr. Billy Baddass,’ and you can’t do anything to him. He definitely damn near sh-t on himself.”

Jones vs. Johnson headlines UFC 187 on May 23. The pay-per-view event takes place at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena.
