UFC 200 may feature a major middleweight bout when Derek Brunson meets Gegard Mousasi.
MMAjunkie confirmed with a person close to one of the fighters that are verbal agreements are in place but bout agreements haven’t been signed. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity since the fight hasn’t been made official. FOXSports.com first reported the planned matchup.
UFC 200 takes place July 9 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
Brunson (15-3 MMA, 6-1 UFC), ranked No. 10 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA middleweight rankings, is currently riding a four-fight winning streak. He has rattled off a trio of impressive knockout wins in his three most recent bouts against Ed Herman, Sam Alvey and Roan Carneiro. None of the three were able to make it out of the first round.
Mousasi (38-6-2 MMA, 5-3 UFC), ranked No. 9, rebounded from a shocking UFC Fight Night 75 TKO loss to Uriah Hall with a dominant unanimous decision win over Thales Leites. He has a 3-1 record since 2015.
