There’s been a lot made of the longtime friendship between TUF 17 Finale main eventers Urijah Faber and Scott Jorgensen, but for Faber, fighting a friend actually relieves some of the tension that he normally feels heading into a fight.
“I feel like having friends in there competing kind of lets some of the tension off,” said Faber at Thursday’s TUF 17 Finale open workouts in Las Vegas. “I feel like I can really let loose in there. I think he probably feels the same way.”
It’s not that there isn’t something to be said for fighting someone that you don’t exactly get along with either… like, say, UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz. There’s much to be said about that as well.
“I’d fight Dominick Cruz every day if they’d let me,” quipped Faber, only half joking. “Scott, I wouldn’t really want to do that. You have to separate all of that. You have to prepare for every fight like it’s a championship fight.”
