Rick Story and Johny Hendricks

Round 1: Story opens the fight pressing Hendricks against the cage and trying for some body shots, but nothing too significant.  Story tries a body lock takedown but Hendricks shrugs it off and they separate.  A left hook by Hendricks to the side of Story’s head.  Story pushes Hendricks against the cage and is pummeling with knees and short punches.  It seems as if Hendricks is waiting for Story to strike so he can counter.  A nice snapping leg kick by Story to the outside leg of Hendricks.  A brief exchange lands Story in a guillotine but he escapes rather easily.  A few peppering jabs from Story followed by a flurry of combos to the body and head score heavily for Story as Hendricks retreats.  Another nice leg kick by Story to the outside leg of Johny.  Story snaps off a body kick but Hendricks catches it instantly and throws Story to the canvas and is looking to improve his position as the round ends. Rick Story and Johny Hendricks

Round 2: An overly aggressive Hendricks opens the round with a thudding 1-2, but is taken down immediately by a composed Story.  Hendricks is able to post briefly, but Story uses that opportunity to take his back.  Story, who was too high on Hendricks’ back loses position as Johny escapes out the back and now has Story pinned against the cage and is pummeling with knees and body shots.  Hendricks turns Story around and is working some dirty boxing of his own, while looking for a takedown.  A jab by Story followed by a huge left to the body land for Story as he is effectively keeping Hendricks at bay.  Hendricks tries a left hook but is countered with a beautiful left jab by the southpaw, Story.  Story then earns a very nice single-leg takedown but it is short-lived as Hendricks posts and wall walks from the cage.  The round ends with a nice flurry of punches from both fighters are the horn sounds. Round 3: Hendricks opens the round with a takedown but Story escapes and pulls a switch on Hendricks and now has him sprawled out.  Story looking for a Kimura as Hendricks is still prone.  Now Hendricks has pulled the switch and he is looking to take Story down and flatten him out, but Story is doing a good job of posting and not giving up position.  The crowd boos at the inactivity.  Hendricks rolls out and briefly has a guillotine, however Story is too strong and muscles out quite easily.    After a few seconds on the feet, Hendricks shoots for another takedown but once again Story posts, and there is a stalemate.  Not the most exciting round as we close in on 30 seconds left.  The round ends with both fighters clinched against the cage.  MMAWeekly.com scores round three 10-9 and the fight 30-27 for Story.
