UFC returns to Dublin on July 19, targets Glasgow event in 2015

joanne-calderwood-1.jpgThe UFC has added Ireland and potentially Scotland to its upcoming travel schedule, officials today announced.

Up first is the Irish capital of Dublin, which will host an event, likely a UFC Fight Night offering, on July 19.

Additionally, Glasgow, Scotland’s most populous city, is expected to host an event in 2015.

Executive Vice President and Managing Director of UFC EMEA Garry Cook today confirmed the plans with talkSPORT.

Fight cards, venues and ticket information weren’t announced.

The announcement comes just hours after the UFC confirmed a May 31 event in Berlin. With another event scheduled in Brazil, it’ll be a two-event day for the UFC.

To date the UFC has hosted just one event in Dublin (and all of Ireland, for that matter). UFC 93 took place in 2009, and in the pay-per-view headliner, Dan Henderson earned a split-decision victory over Rich Franklin. The event took place at The O2.

Scotland, meanwhile, has never hosted a UFC show. However, the UFC recently inked one of the country’s most notable fighters, Cage Warriors and Invicta FC vet Joanne Calderwood. She’ll appear on “The Ultimate Fighter 20? later this year. The show’s tournament winner will be crowned the organization’s inaugural 115-pound strawweight champion.

Robert Whiteford, who recently made his promotional debut at UFC Fight Night 30, also hails from Scotland.
