Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson

Round 2: Johnson moves forward.  They exchange.  Dodson lands a left hand.  Dodson moves in with a combination.  Johnson clinches and pushes Dodson against the cage and secures a takedown.  Dodson gets to his feet and they separate.  Johnson is the one initiating the exchanges.  They exchange outside leg kicks.  Johnson lands a right jab.  Dodson lands a combination ending in a left hand that knock Johnson down.  Johnson immediately gets to his feet.  Johnson moves in and misses and Dodson lands a left hook that drops Johnson.  Johnson is hurt.  He gets up.  Dodson catches a leg kick and fires off a straight left hand.  Two minutes remain in the round.  Johnson lands a right hand and Dodson answers with a left hook.  Johnson is bleeding from the nose.  He presses forward.  Johnson lands a right hand and a leg kick.  Dodson catches another kick and lands a left hand down the middle.  They clinch and Johnson delivers knees to the body.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Dodson.

Round 3: They exchange leg kicks to start the round.  Dodson lands a left hand.  Johnson is still the one moving forward.  Johnson works for a takedown.  Dodson defends it.  Johnson presses Dodson against the cage and lands an accidental knee to the groin.  Dodson is given time to recover.  He says he’s fine and the fight is restarted.  Dodson delivers a kick to the midsection.  Dodson lands a flying knee.  Dodson catches a kick by Johnson and lands a left hand.  Johnson lands a high kick.  They exchange leg kicks.  Johnson lands a combination.  Two minutes remain in the round.  Dodson delivers a hard kick to the body.  Johnson drives forward and secures a takedown.  Dodson works his way to the cage hoping to use it to stand.  Johnson pulls him away from the cage and lands short punches to the body of Dodson.  Johnson works inside Dodson’s full guard.  Dodson gets to his feet.  Johnson lands a knee and works to get the fight back to the ground.  They exchange knees inside the clinch before separating.  The round ends.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Johnson.

Round 4:  Dodson’s corner tells him to stay busy.  Dodson lands a couple of leg kicks.  Johnson presses forward and lands an inside leg kick.  He drives Dodson to the cage and takes him down. Dodson gets free.  Johnson lands a knee while Dodson’s hand was down making it illegal.  Dodson is given time to recover.  Doctors are called in to check Dodson.  He’s deemed okay to continue and the fight is restarted.  Johnson lands an outside leg kick.  Dodson catches a kick and lands a straight left.  Johnson works for a takedown.  Dodson turns Johnson and separates.  Johnson lands a left hand.  He works for a single leg takedown.  Dodson defends it and looks for a takedown but Johnson shakes it off.  Johnson has Dodson against the cage and knees him to the legs and body.  A minute remains in the round.  Johnson continues to land knees, now to the head. Dodson is cut.  Johnson lands a right hand as Dodson gets his head free.  The round ends.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Johnson.

Round 5: They hug to start the final round.  Johnson lands an outside leg kick.  Johnson continues to be the one moving forward.  He clinches and delivers knees to the body of Dodson. Johnson drops down and secures a takedown.  Dodson works to get back to his feet.  He does and Johnson lands a right hand.  Dodson turns Johnson and presses him against the cage.  Dodson lands knees to the body.  Johnson jumps up high and holds himself on Dodson’s body with his knees and lands elbows.  They separate.  Dodson has slowed.  Johnson has not.  Dodson works for a takedown and gets it.  Johnson immediatley stands.  Dodson works for a single leg and Johnson hits him with short elbows.  Dodson lets the leg go and they separate.  Johnson clinches and lands a knee to the face of Dodson.  He lands another and hurts Dodson.  Johnson unloads left hands.  Dodson lands knees to the body.  Johnson applies the muay thai clinch and lands knees to the head.  As they separate, Johnson lands a combination.  They work for position along the cage.  Johnson lands more knees to the face inside the clinch. He continues to land knees until the bell sounds.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Johnson.

The judges score the fight for Johnson.  The scorecards read 48-47, 49-46, and 48-47.  Johnson retains his UFC flyweight title.
