Clay Guida vs. Hatsu Hioki

Round 1:  The two touch gloves and Clay Guida’s featherweight debut is underway.  The crowd chants, “Guida, Guida.”  Guida moving on the outside.  He jumps in with a right hand.  Hioki lands a right hand counter.  Hioki lands a right hand.  Hioki catches Guida with an uppercut as Guida moves in.  Guida misses with a superman punch.  Hioki looking to time when Guida moves in.  Guida looks for a takedown but Hioki shakes it off.  Hioki lands a jab to the body.  Guida bounces around on the outside.  He drops under a Hioki punch and secures a double leg takedown.  Guida works inside Hioki’s guard.  Hioki work around and gets top position.  Guida stands. Hioki lands knees.  They separate.  Hioki lands a right hand counter.  Hioki using his reach well.  The round ends.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Hioki.

Round 2: Guida lands a right hand and Hioki lands a counter combination.  Guida lands a leg kick.  He drops down and elevates Hioki and slams him in the center of the cage.  Hioki isolates an arm and works for a kimura.  Hioki switches to an arm bar, but Guida slams out of it.  Guida works inside Hioki’s closed guard.  Guida lands a right hand.  Guida looks to pass but Hioki uses butterfly guard to keep Guida in place.  Guida works the body with punches.  Hioki active from the bottom.  The referee stands them up.  Hioki lands a stiff jab and a front kick to the body.  Hioki lands a high kick.  Hioki steps in with his jab.  The round ends.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Guida.

Round 3: Guida delivers an outside leg kick.  Hioki lands a left hand.  Hioki steps in with a jab and Guida drops down and secures a takedown.  Hioki works for a triangle choke but Guida slams his way out.  Hioki works a high guard and lands strikes from the bottom.  Guida moves to half guard.  Hioki controls Guida’s posture.  Two minutes remain in the round.  Guida is on top but not doing any damage.  Hioki works to get back to his feet.  Guida slips in a knee to the body.  The referee stand them up with 30 seconds on the clock.  Hioki lands his jab.  They clinch in the closing seconds.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Guida.
