Brad Tavares vs. Yoel Romero

Round 1: They touch gloves and the UFC on FOX 11 main card is underway.  Tavares lands a right hand.  Romero lands an outside leg kick and ducks under a left hook by Tavares.  They exchange leg kicks.  Romero lands a straight left and unloads a flurry on Tavares.  He changes levels and takes Tavares down.  Tavares works his way back to his feet and looks to take Romero down.  Romero defends the takedown attempt and delivers a knee to the body.  He tosses Tavares to the canvas and lands in side control.  Tavares rolls over and stands.  Romero stands with him.  Tavares works to separate Romero’s hands.  Romero drags Tavares to the ground.  Tavares quickly gets up.  Tavares lands a left hook on the break followed by a knee.  Romero takes Tavares down.  Tavares battles back to his feet and takes Romero down.  Romero reverses him.  The round ends.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Romero.

Round 2: Romero wastes no time taking Tavares down.  He lands in side control.  Tavares rolls and scrambles to his feet.  He lands a right hand that backs Romero up.  Tavares rushes in with a right hand.  Tavares moves in and Romero hits him with an elbow. They exchange leg kicks.  The pace slows.  Romero flies through the air and lands a left hand.  He ties Tavares up.  He backs off long enough to land a combination and presses Tavares against the cage.  Tavares tries to take Romero down.  Romero uses a kimura to get free.  They’re back standing.  Tavares leaps in with a flying knee.  Tavares is cut on the left side of his head.  Romero has Tavares against the cage.  They exchange short shots on the inside.  The round ends.  MMAWeekly scores it 10-9 for Romero.

Round 3: Tavares takes the center of the cage.  He paws with his jab.  Tavares moves forward and tries to take Romero down.  Romero has none of it and lands knees to the body inside the clinch position.  They separate.  Tavares lands a straight right hand.  Tavares delivers an outside leg kick.  Tavares goes to the body with a left hand and fires off a head kick that misses.  Romero moves away.  Romero steps in with a left hand.  Tavares responds with a leg kick.  Romero powers forward and takes Tavares down with authority.  Tavares rolls to his knees and stands.  Romero keeps the pressure on.  He lands knees to the legs of Tavares along the cage.  The referee separates them.  Romero lands a left hand and takes Tavares down in the closing seconds.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Romero.

The judges scored the fight for Romero by unanimous decision.  All three scorecards read 30-27.
