Eleven-time UFC veteran Tom Lawlor has been flagged for a potential anti-doping violation.
UFC officials today announced that U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) representatives today notified Lawlor (10-6 MMA, 6-5 UFC) of a potential violation following the collection of an out-of-competition sample on Oct. 10.
First violations under the UFC anti-doping policy typically carry a standard sanction of two years, though Lawlor can contest the finding. In the meantime, Lawlor has been provisionally suspended by USADA.
“USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC anti-doping policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case,” a statement read. “It is important to note that, under the UFC anti-doping policy, there is a full fair legal review process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed. Consistent with all previous potential anti-doping violations, additional information or UFC statements will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.”
