UFC Veteran Che Mills Inks 5-Fight Deal With Cage Warriors Fighting Championship

After recently being released by the UFC, welterweight Che Mills has found a home with one of Europe’s top mixed martial arts promotions.

Cage Warriors Fighting Championship this week announced that it has signed the 30-year-old Englishman to a five-fight contract. CWFC has held 58 events since July 2002, with its next offering set for March 9 at the HMV Forum in Kentish Town, North London, England.

“Che Mills is the best U.K. welterweight outside of the UFC at the moment, so I’m extremely happy that he has decided to come on board,” Cage Warriors CEO Graham Boylan stated in a release. “A fighter of his caliber wouldn’t have been short of offers, but the fact that Che has opted to sign for Cage Warriors is proof that the guy is determined to return to the top.

“When the UFC recently released a bunch of guys, Che was the one I really wanted to bring in,” Boylan continued. “He comes from a great camp and is always exciting to watch.”

Mills was among 16 fighters cut by the Las Vegas-based organization last month following his UFC on Fuel TV 7 meeting with Matt Riddle. “Beautiful” lost a split decision to Riddle, but the bout was later changed to a no contest when it was revealed that the American had tested positive for marijuana metabolites.

Prior to that bout, Mills posted a 2-1 mark in the Octagon, earning first-round stoppages over Chris Cope and Duane Ludwig. In his most prominent matchup, the Trojan Freefighters representative lost to 170-pound contender Rory MacDonald via second-round TKO in the UFC 145 co-headliner.
