UFC Vet Brian Foster Rebounds from Brain Hemorrhag at Glory 11 on Saturday

Brian FosterAfter a brain hemorrhage threatened to derail his MMA career, former UFC welterweight Brian Foster has rebounded nicely, winning three of four fights over the last couple of years.

Still, even with a successful recovery, Foster has sought something more, and thus the decision was made for him to switch gears and step into the kickboxing world, starting with Saturday’s Glory 11 event in Chicago.

“It’s a decision me and my teammates sat down and talked about,” said Foster. “I’m a pretty good boxer and kickboxer, so we decided it would be good to just to try that out for a while and see how the shoe fits.

“(Glory) asked me if I would be interested and it just kind of went from there.”

When asked if his preparation would change much for kickboxing as opposed to MMA, Foster replied, “A little bit.

“I stopped training everything else. I’m still training MMA, but I just focused the last four weeks of my camp on striking and kickboxing in general.”

Foster told MMAWeekly.com that the most difficult part of making the transition was learning to not use his wrestling skills when an opening arose.

“That (expletive) was really hard,” he said. “I’m a wrestler at heart. Clinching up and stuff like that was very hard to stay away from.”

At Glory 11, Foster will face former World Combat League standout Raymond Daniels in a feature bout on Saturday’s event on Spike TV.

“My fighting style is pretty much self-explanatory. I’m not a feel-you-out type of guy. I push the pace, find my range and then start damaging (Daniels) and beating him up,” said Foster of his fight strategy. “I don’t want to give him time to set up any of the flashy (expletive) he’s accustomed to. I’m going to shut it down and make him fight my fight.”

As for Foster’s future, right now it appears that kickboxing is where he’ll stay, but he’s always open to returning to MMA if the right opportunity should arise.

“I like to think of myself as an all-around fighter and it doesn’t matter if it’s a wrestling match, a grappling match or an MMA match, I’m just one of those guys who adapts to my environment pretty well,” said Foster.

“If an MMA opportunity arises and I have the proper time to train for that opportunity, we’ll see where that goes. As far as right now, the opportunity is in kickboxing and I’m going to go out there and give them what they expect, a good show.”
