The UFC has added a pair of contests for the promotion’s return to Mexico.
UFC officials recently announced that a featherweight matchup of Chris Avila vs. Enrique Barzola and a bantamweight contest of Enrique Briones vs. Douglas Silva de Andrade will take place at UFC Fight Night 98.
Featuring a headliner between former UFC lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos and streaking contender Tony Ferguson, UFC Fight Night 98 –which also serves as the live finale for “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America 3” – takes place Nov. 5 at Mexico City Arena in Mexico City. It airs on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.
A Cesar Gracie fighter, Avila (5-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) returns to the cage following a decision loss to Artem Lobov at UFC 202. He now meets Barzola (11-3-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC), a Peruvian fighter who won “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America 2” with a decision win over Horacio Gutierrez before suffering a controversial split-decision loss to Kyle Bochniak at UFC on FOX 21.
Briones (16-5-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) looks to rebound from a UFC 189 loss to Cody Garbrandt. He now faces Silva de Andrade (23-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC), who suffered the lone professional loss of his career in his UFC debut but rebounded with a UFC Fight Night 61 decision over Cody Gibson.
