UFC Fight Night 52 Attendance Figures from Hunt vs. Nelson in Tokyo

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to Saitama, Japan, on Saturday, marking the promotion’s first event there in a year and a half.

The UFC Fight Pass streamed event drew 12,395 people to the famed Saitama Super Arena, the lowest turnout of the promotion’s three events in that arena.

The UFC Fight Night 52 main event delivered as expected, though. Pitting two big heavyweights against each other in Japanese favorite Mark Hunt and “Big Country” Roy Nelson, the fight was destined to not fulfill its scheduled five rounds.

And it didn’t.

Hunt became only the second man to ever knock Nelson out, sending him face first to the canvas courtesy of a second-round uppercut.

In the co-main event, Myles Jury continued his ascension of the lightweight ranks, dispatching legendary Japanese fighter Takanori Gomi with a brutal assault of punches just one-and-a-half minutes into their fight.

Now 15-0, with his last six victories taking place in the Octagon, Jury has become a serious 155-pound contender.

The UFC is expected to do one event in Japan again in 2015, likely around the same time of year as Hunt vs. Nelson.
