The UFC returned to Brazil on Sunday for UFC Fight Night 38: Shogun vs. Henderson II, although it was the promotion’s first trip to Natal. There several spectacular finishes at UFC Fight Night 38, but the main eventers, much as they did at UFC 139, once again stole the show, and the post-fight awards.
Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Dan Henderson didn’t go the full five rounds, as it did at UFC 139, but they seemed to pack almost as much action into the 11 minutes and 31 seconds that they did fight.
While Shogun was on the verge of winning the fight going into the third round, Henderson floored him in the beginning of the round with a punch that looked to break his nose.
The finish earned Henderson one of the two Performance of the Night bonuses, while he and Shogun shared the honor for Fight of the Night.
The other Performance of the Night bonus went to the winner of the event’s opener. Godofredo Pepey was nearly a lock for the honor even though his finish of Noad Lahat came in the first fight on the card. He finished with a jumping knee that left Lahat in a heap against the fence.
Each of the honors is accompanied by a $50,000 bonus, so Henderson earned $100,000 for doubling up.
