UFC Fight Night 30 results: Jessica Andrade brutalizes Rosi Sexton

jessica-andrade-3.jpgMANCHESTER – In a violent and one-sided affair, Jessica Andrade beat down Rosi Sexton to earn her first UFC win.

Despite the degree of Andrade’s dominance, the bout went the distance as two of three judges awarded the Brazilian 30-26 scores. A 30-27 tally rounded out the unanimous decision.

The women’s bantamweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 30 event at Phones4u Arena in Manchester, England. It streamed on MMAjunkie.com ahead of the main card on FOX Sports 2.

Within 30 seconds, Andrade announced her presence to Sexton with a flurry of hard punches that sent her reeling back to the cage. Sexton took the first opportunity possible to take the fight to the ground, catching a leg kick, but Andrade denied her the chance and continued to land punishing fists. A ground exchange was initiated by Andrade, but Sexton escaped, only to take more punches.

One of them dropped her, and unfortunately, Andrade threw a blatantly illegal knee as Sexton righted herself. The referee issued a verbal warning between rounds, but did not take a point.

Andrade relentlessly battered Sexton in the second round, and at moments, it looked as though the fight could be stopped. Sexton’s efforts at fighting back met with diminishing returns, and her face began to gruesomely swell.

Despite taking a voluminous amount of punishment, Sexton came out for the third round and tried again to take the fight to the ground. Andrade’s defense remained strong, however, and she continued to hammer away to the bell.

“I was impressed with how much punishment Rosi could take,” Andrade admitted after the fight. “I can’t imagine anyone that could take as much as that. I was going for the knockout, but props to Rosi.

“I will train more and more, win more fights and hopefully I can get to the title at some point.”

Andrade (10-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) gets back on the winning track after losing a second-round TKO to Liz Carmouche in her debut at UFC on FOX 8. Sexton (13-4 MMA, 0-2 UFC), a veteran of women’s MMA, remains winless in the octagon following a loss to Alexis Davis in her debut at UFC 161.
