UFC Fight Night 30 results: Brad Scott taps Michael Kuiper in first

brad-scott-1.jpgMANCHESTER – Fighting in front of a friendly crowd, Englishman Brad Scott picked up his first official UFC win, tapping out Michael Kuiper in the opening round.

The middleweight bout opened up the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 30 event at Phones4u Arena in Manchester, England. It streamed on MMAjunkie.com ahead of the main card on FOX Sports 2.

After some early boxing exchanges, Scott pressed into the clinch, where Kuiper tossed him to the floor. However, Scott refused to stay on the mat and crawled immediately back to his feet, where the two continued to grind until pulled apart by a referee restart.

When they returned to action, Scott pressed right back into the clinch. Kuiper again looked for the trip but missed the technique and fell to the floor. Scott immediately seized the opportunity to latch on to the neck during the ensuing scramble and squeeze hard on a 10-finger guillotine choke from the standing position. Kuiper couldn’t pull the neck free and was forced to tap with 43 seconds left in the opening round.

Scott, who was a finalist on “The Ultimate Fighter: Smashes,” couldn’t contain his excitement after the win.

“First of all, I’m with Joe Rogan, ladies and gentlemen,” Scott said. “Boom!”

While it appeared Scott had perfectly executed a clinch-based gameplan, he revealed after the win that wasn’t the case it all.

“No, it was the opposite,” Scott admitted. “I messed up. I was meant to keep him at range and avoid the throws.”

Scott (9-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) is now 7-1 in his past eight official contests. Kuiper (12-3 MMA, 1-3 UFC), who entered the UFC as an undefeated prospect, falls to 1-3 in the octagon and faces a likely release from the promotion.
