UFC Fight Night 27 results: Dylan Andrews scores comeback win over Papy Abedi

INDIANAPOLIS – “The Ultimate Fighter 17? cast member Dylan Andrews kept his octagon record unblemished, fighting through a shoulder injury and scoring a come-from-behind win over Papy Abedi.

The middleweight bout closed out the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 27 event at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. It aired on FOX Sports 2 following additional prelims on Facebook and ahead of a main card on FOX Sports 1.

Andrews stayed at distance early, pawing at the lead hand while Abedi drove in a few kicks to the body. Abedi took control y moving n for a takedown, but Andrews quickly scrambled and reversed the position with a takedown of his own. As Abedi scrambled up, Andrews looked for a potential head-and-arm choke but eventually was forced to his back when “Makambo” scored another takedown.

Abedi continued with the kicks to the body in the second, and Andrews tried to work in counters with his right hand. Andrews scored a takedown but couldn’t keep the action on the floor, and Abedi scored with big punches on the feet. With Andrews wobbling, Abedi forced the action to the floor and landed several big ground-and-pound shots before looking for a potential choke attempt. It didn’t come, but Abedi made a statement with his control of the action.

With Andrews nursing what seemed to be an injured left hand (but turned out to be his shoulder, which he said he injured in the opening round), he looked to land heavy with his right. A sort uppercut did exactly that, wobbling Abedi and giving Andrews his chance. As Abedi shot in to slow things down, Andrews scored with another right hand, and his opponent slumped to the floor. Andrews pounced with more punches, earning the come-from-behind win.

“I’m really disappointed in my performance,” Andrews said after the win. “I separated my shoulder in the first round, and the adrenaline was not masking the pain. I was just finding it very hard to get my timing and get in the groove.”

Andrews (17-4 MMA, 2-0 UFC) now boasts a six-fight win streak. Returning to middleweight after three fights at 170 pounds, Abedi (9-3 MMA, 1-3 UFC) falls to 1-3 in his four UFC appearances.
