UFC Champ Jon Jones in Police Custody Following Hit-And-Run Accident

UFC Champ Jon Jones in Police Custody Following Hit-And-Run Accident

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones turned himself in to Albuquerque Police on Monday evening to face charges of allegedly being involved in a felony hit-and-run on Sunday. The Albuquerque Police Department confirmed the development to MMAWeekly.com.

Jones was initially being sought for questioning and was expected to be charged with a misdemeanor for Leaving the Scene of an Accident. The charge on Monday was elevated to a felony after it was revealed that the pregnant victim in the accident suffered a fractured arm and wrist.

The Albuquerque Police Department issued a felony arrest warrant for the light heavyweight champion on Monday, but offered for him to turn himself in. The 27-year-old complied and is currently in police custody being held on a $2,500 bond.

Jones is scheduled to defend his 205-pound title against Anthony Johnson at UFC 187 on May 23. It’s unclear whether Jones will remain on the fight card. The UFC released a statement on Sunday that stated, ““We are in the process of gathering facts and will reserve further comment until more information is available.”

MMAWeekly.com will continue to follow the story as it continues to develop.
