UFC 203 Results: Stipe Miocic Retains Heavyweight Title with KO of Alistair Overeem

Stipe Miocic retained his UFC heavyweight title on Saturday, knocking out Alistair Overeem in the first round of the featured bout at UFC 203 in Cleveland.

Miocic grounded and pounded Overeem late in the opening frame, picking up the finish at 4:27 of Round 1.

Overeem struck first in the evening’s main event, hitting Miocic with a left hand that sent him falling to the floor in an obvious daze. He attempted to finish Miocic on the ground with a guillotine, but the heavyweight champion scrambled and found his way out of danger.

Miocic then began to turn up the offense and chased down Overeem, trapping him against the cage and throwing flurries of punches. Ultimately, Miocic caught an Overeem side kick and successfully secured the takedown.

Working on the ground and from the guard, Miocic furiously applied the ground and pound as his opponent attempted to cover up and shift away from danger. Miocic showed to be too much, however, and pounded away with punches before the referee pulled him off to signal an end to the fight.

With the win at UFC 203, Miocic makes a successful first defense of the UFC heavyweight title he won at UFC 198 over Fabricio Werdum. Overeem walks away from UFC 203 and suffers his 10th career loss by knockout.
