Demetrious Johnson was on the same card as Jon Jones and had the chance to make a statement about who the true pound-for-pound king is.
And what a statement he made, stopping former Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo in the first round.
The flyweight title bout was the co-main event of the UFC 197 event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
Johnson (24-2-1 MMA, 12-1-1 UFC) was briefly taken to the mat by Cejudo (10-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC), but after surviving without taking damage, the champ worked back to his feet and landed a series of hard knees from the clinch that brought about the end of the fight. After being badly hurt to the body, Cejudo found himself covering up as Johnson dropped shots until the referee called off the bout at the 2:45 mark of Round 1.
