UFC 184's Cat Zingano on rumors: 'I passed the drug test and the pregnancy test'

LOS ANGELES – While rumors swirled, Cat Zingano was blissfully unaware of the speculation that she had failed a drug test prior to Saturday’s UFC 184 title fight with women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey.

The rumors died down this past week when the California State Athletic Commission confirmed both Zingano (9-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) and Rousey (10-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC), who headline this weekend’s pay-per-view event at Los Angeles’ Staples Center, passed out-of-competition drug tests.

When asked about the rumors, Zingano said she was unaware.

But, “I passed the drug test and the pregnancy test,” Zingano said. “So I’m good.”

She then laughed.

“I didn’t even study,” she added.

The speculation could’ve been a source of even more stress heading into the event. According to the current odds – Rousey is a 9-1 favorite – Zingano doesn’t stand much of a chance against the sport’s most prominent female fighter. But Zingano said she’s never been one to doubt her own abilities – even as others talk about Rousey’s Mike Tyson-like ability to beat opponents before they even step in the cage.

“In my eyes, of course, I think I’m the best in the world, and I have respect for Ronda because that would make her second best,” Zingano said. “I really look up to her style, the path that she’s made for all of us to be where we are today. I just see it as this awesome opportunity.

“I’m just really grateful for her, for everything she’s done. Other than that, it’s about me.”
